Gap of Dunloe Destination Garden

Gap of Dunloe Destination Garden

The practice has provided masterplanning, landscape design and project management services for the redevelopment of Moriarty’s shop and associated lands at the Gap of Dunloe in Kerry.

The landscape masterplan included the development of a garden dedicated to the interpretation of the famous Gap landscape and has been planted with grasses, heathers and trees native to the area.

The development of a productive kitchen garden designed to a natural, spiral theme using dry stone walls to demarcate the site now supplies food to the cafe. The rest of the site includes ornamental gardens, a riverside walk, and natural wildflower meadow and pond area. The facility is intended to be a destination and interpretation centre for the Gap of Dunloe, one of Kerry’s finest landmarks.

Austen Associates provided masterplanning, detailed design, construction details, 3D design and images, horticultural advice, plant selection in nursery (planting design to suit local soil and climatic conditions), setting out planting on site, supervision of construction, signing-off works completed, media and promotional work.
